Good News for the Pilgrims, The Amarnath Yatra dates to be announced for 2022.

The Yatra begins mostly in the Month of June every year


As per the guidelines, normally persons below 13 years of age and above 75 years of age are not be permitted to undertake the arduous pilgrimage.

The Amarnath Yatra board has decided to bump up the quota for online registration following the success of the pilot project for the same that was carried out for a limited number of pilgrims in 2019.

During Amarnath Yatra you will come across many attractive destinations on the way. Chandanwari - The beautiful natural beauty of Chandanwari is truly mesmerising. Chandanwari is around 15 kms from Pahalgam. In fact you can also go till Chandanwari via road. Taxis and Mini buses are available from Pahalgam to Chandanwari. Chandanwari is located at an altitude of 2895 meters above sea level. The route beside Lidder river at Chandanwari is stunning.

Pissu Top: From Chandanwari the trek to Amarnath cave goes via Pissu Top. You need to climb 3 kms from Chandanwari to reach Pissu Top. The enchanting Pissu Top is located at a height of 3377 meters above sea level or about 11000 ft.

Sheshnag: Another trek of 12 kms from Pissu Top and you will reach the God's own place that is Sheshnag. Sheshnag is located at a height of over 3350 meters or about 11000 ft.

Mahagunas: around 5 Kms from Sheshnag is the panoramic Mahagunas situated at a height of 4276 meters or around 14000 ft.

Panchtarni: This is yet another important point of Amarnath yatra. Panchtarni is arond 9 Kms from Mahagunas and it is over 12000 ft in height.

Holy Amarnath Cave: The Holy Amarnath Cave is located at an altitude of 3952 meters above sea level or approximately 13000 ft.

Amarnath Yatra generally begins in July every year. One route to amarnath is via Pahalgam which is relatively easy but very long. Apart from Pahalgam Chandanwari route the pilgrims can also reach Amarnath via Baltal. This route is short and less in distance but you will find lot of steep falls and rises in the Baltal Amarnath route.

The distance from Baltal to the holy cave of Baba Amarnath is around 15 Kms. This distance can be covered in a day and the pilgrims can reach back to Baltal on the same day.


How to Reach Baltal
Distance of Baltal from Jammu is around 400 kms. Distance of Baltal from Srinagar is around 100 Kms. From Jammu you can reach Srinagar by road or Taxi or by Air. From Srinagar you can reach Baltal by road via Sonamarg. Taxis and Mini buses are available from Srinagar.

Baltal to Domail – 2 Kms
Domail to Barari Marg – 5 Kms
Barari Marg to Sangam – 4 Kms

The famous Amarnath Yatra in the beautiful Kashmir Valley is organized by Jammu and Kasmir Government every year. The dates for the Holy Amarnath Yatra generally vary and fall in the Sharavan Month or between July and August. The dates of the Amarnath Yatra also vary according to the road clearance and weather conditions in the Kashmir Valley.

While on the way to the Holy cave of Baba Amarnath the pilgrims are offered food and accommodation by various charitable trust free of cost. Jammu Kashmir Government also offers tented accommodation at various locations with a very nominal charge to the pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra.

Tips to the Pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra

The weather conditions are very uncertain so the pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra are advised to carry woolens and rain coats or umbrellas. The pilgrims can also take small torches, walking sticks during the Yatra. First aid box or general medicines are also advisable though medical facilities are available to the pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra

The Holy Amarnath Cave is located at an altitude of about 3900 meters. The distance of Amarnath from Jammu is around 365 Kms via Pahalgam. Distance of Amarnath from Jammu via Baltal is around 415 Kms.

The nearest Airport from Amarnath is Srinagar which is connected by daily flights from all over the country. Regular flights from Jammu to Srinagar, Delhi to Srinagar are available on daily basis. Flights to Srinagar are also available from Chandigarh, Amritsar and other cities

Reaching Amarnath by Train

Nearest Railway Stations from Amarnath are Jammu and Udhampur. Number of trains ply to Jammu and Udhampur from all parts of the country.

Reaching Amarnath by Road

From Jammu you can take state roadways buses towards Pahalgam or you can go by share taxi. National Highway which is very well maintained with picturesque beauty connects Jammu to Srinagar and Pahalgam. The longest tunnel in India the Jawahar Tunnel also falls on

You can cover the distance from Srinagar to Pahalgam or Jammu to Pahalgam by road. Distance of Pahalgam from Jammu is around 315 kms. Distance of Pahalgam from Srinagar is around 90 Kms.

From Pahalgam you will head towards Chandanwari (16 Km from Pahalgam). From Chandanwari the Amarnath Yatra will head towards Pissu Top (3 Kms from Chandanwari). Another 9 Kms trek will lead you to Sheshnag. From here the journey to heaven begins. The amazing and serene mountains will fill you with joy and thrill. 12 Kms from Sheshnag is Panchtarni and from here the final 6 Kms walk and you will reach the holy cave of Baba Amarnath
