The famous Amarnath Yatra in the beautiful Kashmir Valley is organized by Jammu and Kasmir Government every year. The dates for the Holy Amarnath Yatra generally vary and fall in the Sharavan Month or between July and August. The dates of the Amarnath Yatra also vary according to the road clearance and weather conditions in the Kashmir Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir Government works day and night before the Yatra begins and make sure that the pilgrims get all the facilities during the Yatra. The facilities include stay arrangements, food, medical assistance clear roads and track etc.

You can register yourself at the J&K Tourist Offices located in various cities in India. The registration offices are located in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahamdabad, New Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar

Food and Accommodation at Amarnath Yatra

While on the way to the Holy cave of Baba Amarnath the pilgrims are offered food and accommodation by various charitable trust free of cost. Jammu Kashmir Government also offers tented accommodation at various locations with a very nominal charge to the pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra.

Tips to the Pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra

The weather conditions are very uncertain so the pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra are advised to carry woolens and rain coats or umbrellas. The pilgrims can also take small torches, walking sticks during the Yatra. First aid box or general medicines are also advisable though medical facilities are available to the pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra

How to reach Amarnath, Driving Directions and Route Map to Amarnath

The Holy Amarnath Cave is located at an altitude of about 3900 meters. The distance of Amarnath from Jammu is around 365 Kms via Pahalgam. Distance of Amarnath from Jammu via Baltal is around 415 Kms.

Reaching Amarnath by Air

The nearest Airport from Amarnath is Srinagar which is connected by daily flights from all over the country. Regular flights from Jammu to Srinagar, Delhi to Srinagar are available on daily basis. Flights to Srinagar are also available from Chandigarh, Amritsar and other cities

Reaching Amarnath by Train

Nearest Railway Stations from Amarnath are Jammu and Udhampur. Number of trains ply to Jammu and Udhampur from all parts of the country.

Reaching Amarnath by Road

From Jammu you can take state roadways buses towards Pahalgam or you can go by share taxi. National Highway which is very well maintained with picturesque beauty connects Jammu to Srinagar and Pahalgam. The longest tunnel in India the Jawahar Tunnel also falls on

number 1.

You can cover the distance from Srinagar to Pahalgam or Jammu to Pahalgam by road. Distance of Pahalgam from Jammu is around 315 kms. Distance of Pahalgam from Srinagar is around 90 Kms.

From Pahalgam you will head towards Chandanwari (16 Km from Pahalgam). From Chandanwari the Amarnath Yatra will head towards Pissu Top (3 Kms from Chandanwari). Another 9 Kms trek will lead you to Sheshnag. From here the journey to heaven begins. The amazing and serene mountains will fill you with joy and thrill. 12 Kms from Sheshnag is Panchtarni and from here the final 6 Kms walk and you will reach the holy cave of Baba Amarnath
